About the project
With more than six thousand loyal fans, the Humans of Nelson is a beautiful, touching, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories celebrating our individuality and capturing the spirit of Nelson, British Columbia.
Photographer Ryan Oakley takes to the streets of Nelson, asking strangers if he can take their picture. Sometimes a bit of their conversation ends up as a caption to the photo.
This is a spin-off of the popular Humans of New York.
Enjoy!

Read More"Many years ago, I fell and injured my head. It took me awhile to even figure out that something was wrong. I kept forgetting things...but I thought I was just getting old."
"What's it like living with a head injury?"
"It's actually not that bad. My life is pretty simple. I get peace and quiet - and lots of time to commune with myself. I even get these really vivid memories of my childhood. Out of nowhere things will pop in my head and I'll even experience the emotion of the memory."
"And what's the hardest part?"
"When I'm in the middle of saying something important and the next word or sentence just leaves my mind. Poof. But if I'm patient, the thought will come back - just not always when I want it to."
