About the project
With more than six thousand loyal fans, the Humans of Nelson is a beautiful, touching, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories celebrating our individuality and capturing the spirit of Nelson, British Columbia.
Photographer Ryan Oakley takes to the streets of Nelson, asking strangers if he can take their picture. Sometimes a bit of their conversation ends up as a caption to the photo.
This is a spin-off of the popular Humans of New York.
Enjoy!

"I have some tough decisions to make coming up. Do I take the job that pays the most but takes me away from where I want to be? Or do I stay and do something I enjoy that pays less?"
"What would you do that you enjoy?"
"Tree planting. I love it."
"Sounds like an easy choice."
"Yeah, I'll probably take the job that pays more."
[On a side note, this guy wins the award for best answer to the question everyone gets, "Can I take your photo?" His response? "Most definitely." It was like I was making HIS day by taking his photo. Or like I wasn't asking to take his photo, but asking if I could buy him a beer. What a great attitude.]
