About the project
With more than six thousand loyal fans, the Humans of Nelson is a beautiful, touching, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories celebrating our individuality and capturing the spirit of Nelson, British Columbia.
Photographer Ryan Oakley takes to the streets of Nelson, asking strangers if he can take their picture. Sometimes a bit of their conversation ends up as a caption to the photo.
This is a spin-off of the popular Humans of New York.
Enjoy!

Read More"I consider myself a Rainbow. And Nelson's a mecca for Rainbows. A Rainbow is someone who takes spiritual fulfillment from every genre. So that means I'm a Buddhist, I'm a Christian, I'm a Hindu, I'm an Essenes, and I'm a Native. I'm really connected to my Faith, to the Spirit, the Creator, to Mother Earth. I devote myself from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. My favourite thing to do is to walk into the forest and hang out at Malcolm's tree fairy circles. That's my sanctuary. I have this practice that I've developed from being a Rainbow and my safe place is in the forest with the animals."
