About the project
With more than six thousand loyal fans, the Humans of Nelson is a beautiful, touching, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories celebrating our individuality and capturing the spirit of Nelson, British Columbia.
Photographer Ryan Oakley takes to the streets of Nelson, asking strangers if he can take their picture. Sometimes a bit of their conversation ends up as a caption to the photo.
This is a spin-off of the popular Humans of New York.
Enjoy!

I spotted her sitting on the ledge knitting (sorry - crocheting) what she later tells me is a mask for a friend.
I take some photos and when she asks to look at them, all we see is [Media Card Missing] on my screen.
"Holy crap. I forgot my card in my computer."
She was such a good sport. We walked together to get the memory card (which happened to be in the same building where she had to pay a bill) and then we walked back to where we met so we could re-do the shot.
I have to admit, the first shot was more natural, but we think we made the best of a "second chance".
